There was a leaked Dem caucus call doing a postmortem on why they lost seats in the House. The moderate Dems blamed progressive messaging as the cause while the progressives defended their position. Pelosi then noted that swinging too far left could cost the two Senate runoffs in Georgia. Actually, if we want to win those runoffs we should campaign as progressive as possible as explained below.
Thom got a call about it this morning, the caller agreeing with Pelosi and the moderates that a more moderate message was needed to win in their districts. Thom responded that no, the moderates lost because their message was too moderate. He correctly noted that repeated polls illustrate that the majority in both parties want the sort of polices that progressives run on, like Medicare For All and the Green New Deal. If anything the moderates needed to appeal to such policies to bring out that majority instead of trying to compromise in an obviously ineffective capitulation with the Repugs.
As demonstrated above, the corporate Dems still haven't learned that simple message. They still cling to big money donors who want policies that favor them. And we the people want candidates that represent us, as The Squad and the Progressive Caucus grew even larger by sticking to progressive messages that resonate. There really is only one effective way to change the Party from within: primary and replace the establishment one election at a time. We're making progress and I look forward to the time when we are the majority.
