I find this article enlightening in that the nomothetic and the ideographic epistemological perspectives comes down to “incompatible worldviews” (16). I noted the same in this paper and Kuhn would agree as to the incommensurability of scientific paradigms. Kuhn further noted that our observation itself is influenced by the paradigm worldviews though which we interpret phenomena.
That said, as investigated in the humanities we are indeed in a transition to a new worldview paradigm that has yet to take definitive theoretical shape (which integralists and metamodernists etc. are apparently in a race to be arbiters). So in the meantime we are living in what Stein calls “a time between worlds” with competing paradigms fighting to maintain or achieve prominence. One thing we know for sure is that as Bob Dylan sang: “The times they are a changin’.”
