The new IPCC report makes clear the direct causation between burning fossil fuels and the exponentially accelerating climate crisis. The Secretary General of the UN warned we're in a "code red for humanity" and that "there's no time for delay and no room for excuses."
Which directly relates to the recently passed Senate infrastructure Bill, which ignores the above and continues to funnel money into the fossil fuel industry. Which in turn continues its $billions campaign to lie about the climate crisis. And that includes "the entire Republican Party in the US, as well as more than a few Democrats."
Thom noted on his program today that the only reason the smaller Bill passed was due to the above. And that is also the reason why the larger infrastructure package via reconciliation in the Senate is likely doomed to failure. All the Repugs and those same Dems are against all of the climate provisions therein that require not only reduction of fossil fuel emissions and production but the development of sustainable energy production.
That is exactly why the House has to keep its promise to not pass the smaller Bill unless and until the bigger Bill passes the Senate. We can no longer use the excuse that it's better than nothing. As noted above, this is a climate emergency that requires drastic change NOW, for there literally will not be any meaningful tomorrow is a few short years. We must hold fast to the larger Bill if we have any hope of just reducing the effects of the crisis, since we can no longer avoid it.
