Vaccines up in worst Covid States

As reported in this WaPo article, especially in the worst hit areas by the Delta variant. A main reason for the uptick is that Delta is causing so much suffering and death that much of the former hesitancy is being countered by many seeing friends and relatives contracting it and the personal devastation is causes. 

This research on how liberals and conservatives differ on empathy indeed shows that the latter usually only care when the situation become personal. The former can take a perspective of feeling the suffering of and showing empathy for others not personally related to them. But conservatives need to feel the suffering up close and personal before they care enough to take action. 

It's unfortunate that Delta had to get so severe that it touched so many lives to the point of getting some of the previously hesitant to get a vaccine. It is especially so since it was the number of unvaccinated that allowed Covid to spread to such a degree that it evolved into this variant. The good news, if there is any in this pandemic, is that the damage now is so vast that it is directly touching the lives of so many that they are finally getting the vaccine. Hopefully enough of them will now do so to curtail Delta to the point of irrelevance.
