Why doesn't the Democratic Party understand this?

If we do not pass the For the People Act all of the Repug voter suppression laws and their ability to overturn legitimate election results will ensure that they will maintain control of all branches of government possibly forever, but surely for the next generation. So why are establishment Democrats balking at passing this necessary and urgent legislation? The worse scenario to them denying this is even happening is that they know it and are still letting it happen because they'll do just fine either way. And that is a horrendous possibility but one we can't help but wonder about given the inaction.
