The NYT Morning Newsletter reiterates something that George Lakoff has said since forever: People vote their values, not policy. This comment was in the analysis of why the Dem Party is continuing to lose working class voters as witnessed by the recent election.
"Democrats can’t win over the working class by talking about only economic issues. [...] Policy proposals, of any kind, may not even be the full answer: Some political scientists believe that Democrats talk too much about policy and not enough about values."
Which of course goes directly to framing those values in progressive populist terms noted most recently by Thom Hartman. If we want to win over the working class we need to focus on what they value. Unfortunately liberals still refuse Lakoff's wise advice in Framing 101 to their downfall. Which is so ironic, given that they consider themselves the smart ones but in this case they are just plain stupid.
