Hartmann: AG Garland's false equivalence

Thom chastises Garland for not specifically naming Twitler and the Repugnacon Party as responsible parties for the Jan. 6 insurrection. Instead Garland tries to equate that with violence on both sides. On the surface it appears to be even-handed but it's anything but. This is exactly the strategy the Repugs are using to direct attention and responsibility away from what happened on Jan. 6. It doesn't inspire any confidence that Garland will prosecute Twit or the Repugs responsible for the insurrection. 

However some progressives are also using a false equivalence pseudo-argument in that they equate all Democrats with Repugs. Granted the Dem Party is controlled by neoliberals and must be fought and defeated. But neoliberalism is not the same as the kind of fascism that has taken over the Repug Party. It's the latter responsible for the insurrection, as well as voter suppression laws and allowing their partisan hacks to overturn elections. This distinction must be made, for to equate them is in effect misdirecting our focus and our fight against defeating the fascism that is out to destroy democracy.
