As reported by the Daily Poster, its stage 1 trials are looking positive that it is effective against all variants of COVID. Given it is a public entity its manufacture and delivery are not contaminated by private patents and corporate profits. Hence this could solve the problem of vaccine supply to poorer nations, which because of low vax rates are creating the environment for more variants which then come back to bite us more privileged nations.
Thirty members of the Progressive Caucus (why not the entire caucus?) wrote a letter calling on Biden to globally share and distribute the vaccine:
"Should the new SpFn vaccine emerging from the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research that promises resistance to all variants of COVID-19 prove safe and effective, we ask that the United States and any industry partner put the vaccine’s intellectual property in the public domain and actively share its production technology with manufacturers throughout the world to ensure adequate supply, access, and fair pricing. Additionally, we ask that any doses produced by industry partners be sold at cost of production."
Rep. Khanna added:
"The failure to establish global vaccine equity has paved the way for the Omicron and Delta variants. Efforts are underway to develop a vaccine that can help protect against future strains, but as we have learned during the course of this pandemic, developing vaccines is only half the battle. We must also ensure that all countries have access to life-saving vaccine technology, and we must support global manufacturing efforts as much as possible."
Please contact your Reps in support, thanks.
