Sirota: Media on Will Smith's slap proves his movie's point

He wrote about his Oscar experience and the gratitude that the Academy brought the climate crisis into focus by nominating Don't Look Up. And yet he also said that the 'incident' proves the movie's overall point:

"The film’s message about distraction was reflected in how Oscar controversies generated so much more media attention and commentary than the collapse of a New York City-sized piece of the Antarctic ice shelf."

I guess the Oscars are just more distraction to keep us occupied from acknowledging the crisis, let alone doing something about it. The nomination was just as usual mere lip service: A one off fellatio without even a happy ending.
