Colbert: COVID cases underreported

He did a segment on this last night. We are experiencing an uptick in COVID but we'd never know it because people are increasingly using at-home rapid tests but rarely reporting the results. Another factor is that the government is no longer covering the costs of PCR tests, which are expensive for lower incomes and those without insurance. The only way we know of this uptick is wastewater testing, which cannot tell us case counts.

He said this was based on 'experts' but didn't provide sources. However I did provide reliable, verifiable sources on the topic here and here. This is happening and we in the US refuse to acknowledge the facts anymore. I present them so you must face that your current, irresponsible behavior is causing the spread of this disease and endangering others' health and lives. I know, Twitiots could care less about that but you liberals who claim to care cannot excuse your selfish behavior with this wish for the pandemic to be over by blindly following the CDC's latest guidelines. Those new guidelines are created specifically for the political reason of supporting the economy to get votes in an election year. Go ahead, continue to behave poorly but at least have the guts to admit why you're doing it and accept the responsibility of the consequences.

Btw, the CDC itself provided this latest information on at-home testing:

"Mandated COVID-19 reporting requirements omit at-home tests, and there are no standard processes for test takers or manufacturers to share results with appropriate health officials. Therefore, with increased COVID-19 at-home test use, laboratory-based reporting systems might increasingly underreport the actual incidence of infection."
