Hartmann: Use more accurate frames

Thom is tired of the media falsely calling fascists right-wing populists. A populist is "a person representing a political position that reflects the needs and desires of the majority of the population, and is opposed to the interests of corrupt elites." And the Repugnaklan Party does not meet that definition since it "is almost exclusively funded by giant corporations, foreign governments, and the morbidly rich.  It doesn’t get more elite than that." The correct term  for them is "fascist, a system of government that merges state and government interests while holding political power by demonizing minorities, foreigners, and the powerless."

On the Democratic side, the progressive caucus is correctly called populist. Thom lists the policies they support which meets its real definition. He adamantly opposes calling the rest of the corporate Dem Party centrist. He correctly noted: "What’s centrist about taking money from industry, betraying your constituents to help that industry, and then sending out slick flyers lying to your voters that you’re a progressive? Hypocrite or opportunist seem like better labels, although I’m personally fond of sellout."

Thom gives us better frames for calling out what is what and who is who. It would be wise for us to take his advice and use the correct terminology.
