Hartmann: Independent state legislature doctrine

The Supreme Corp decided to hear a case on this issue. "It literally gives state legislatures the power to pre-rig or simply hand elections to the candidate of their choice."

According the the US Constitution, State legislatures have the sole power to appoint their Electors. Up to now State law and Constitutions provide that the winner of the popular vote get the Electors. But the Corp could decide under this doctrine that the latter could be ignored and the State legislatures could override the vote in appointing Electors.

It's basically what Twitler and Eastman tried to do in the last election with another set of fake Electors. However current State laws and Constitutions prevented that from happening. But if the Corp rules to bypass those laws and Constitutions then there goes democracy, as our vote becomes moot. Given the Corp's recent decisions this next travesty seems a foregone conclusion.
