It's not just Roe v. Wade. He supports this contention with several recent Supreme Corp decisions. And he is not exaggerating that it could very well spell the end of our democracy. He aptly sees the parallels to how fascism happened in Weimar Germany. How the academics thought it could be reasoned with. That sincere dialogue would rule the day. That the violent racist rhetoric was only from extremists.
The same is happening now in America. Our scholars, writers, intellectuals and journalists prefer "accommodation over confrontation." They ignored the billionaire class impoverishing the working class and the Christian fascists stripping us of our rights. They sit comfortably on corporate and academic boards far removed from the suffering of the masses, blaming us for our misfortunes. And they give the fascists legitimacy. He sees even the liberal class choosing fascism over progressives and organized labor. The latter get in the way of "unfettered exploitation and profit."
When you forget the lessons of history you are doomed to repeat them. And that's exactly what America is doing at the peril of losing our cherished democracy.
