Lakoff on Newsom's effective framing

Continuing this post, Lakoff thinks Newsom is using progressive framing effectively. "Democrats must do a better job of speaking openly about what’s at stake: freedom. That’s what Newsom is trying to do."

For example, Newsom ran an ad in Florida telling them that their Governor is taking away their freedoms to: vote, read books, speak and have reproductive rights. He closes with asking Floridians to join in the fight to restore those freedoms. Or join us in California, the land of the free.

Newsom's latest ad in Texas goes after the Governor for his draconian abortion law. Newsom plays on that in CA's new law that allows "private citizens to sue people who make or sell banned weapons, such as so-called ghost guns."

Newsom is right that Democrats have to "start playing hardball" effectively. And Lakoff thinks he's doing a good job of it. Be more like Gavin if you want to win.
