No comparison with today. And there's a clear villain to blame here: The bribed RepugnaKlan Party. The hero is how the Dems finally got a few Repugs* to go along with at least the minimal beginnings of gun reform legislation.
* 15 yeas in the Senate, in the House only 14 yeas. With those few temporary exceptions they are still the villains.
