The Onion gets serious, sort of

They seriously filed a brief with the US Supreme Court in defense of a satirist "who was arrested and prosecuted for making fun of police on social media." The brief defends our right to humor and parody citing several legal authorities. And yet in their inimitable style it is also laced with parody, calling the Court "total Latin dorks" and greatly exaggerating its own readership and influence:

"The Onion is the world’s leading news publication, offering highly acclaimed, universally revered coverage of breaking national, international, and local news events. Rising from its humble beginnings as a print newspaper in 1756, The Onion now enjoys a daily readership of 4.3 trillion and has grown into the single most powerful and influential organization in human history."
