Hartmann: Why do the rich oppose democracy?

Because it upsets their control of government and challenges their supposed supremacy. They've always hated democracy because it gives power to what they consider "the rabble." Instead they are just fine with oligarchy and even fascism, which maintains their power and privilege. 

Thom explores how they've dominated the Repugliklan Party, which seeks to serve them as well-paid whores. Their aim is to keep us rabble struggling with low paid jobs without any security so that we fear losing them if we get politically involved. 

When we did have a robust middle class it provided some leisure time where we could be good citizens and get involved. All of which led to worker empowerment in unions, protests, reproductive rights and women's liberation, strikes, campus revolts, civil rights etc. You know, all the hallmarks of democracy. It's easy to see why the ruling class had to put down this riotous revolt of we the people.

Hence the oligarchy found suitable prostitutes in Conald Tramp and his fascist MAGAt mob. They were united with the fascists to end democracy so that they could continue their control and privilege. Neoliberalism has always been the precedent condition for fascism. And we see it on open display in today's Repugliklan Party taken over by the MAGAt fascists. The 1% are loving every second of it. The rest of us not so much.
