A new TV series about a post-apocalyptic world created by a fungus pandemic. People when infected turn into zombies whose purpose is to violently replicate the fungus to the entire human race. It's not an original plot line but it's well written, produced and acted.
What keeps recurring to me is how our current Covid pandemic has a similar trajectory. The virus has so turned us into zombies intent on its replication. We've given up on any precautions to curb its spread, which has led to it mutating time and again. Since new mutations seem to be getting less deadly, and we have new treatments that mitigate serious illness, we pretty much ignore it now.
But new mutations keep getting more transmissible. And there is no way to predict when it might indeed turn more deadly again and be immune to vaccines and treatments. One thing is certain though: The virus has programmed us into reproductive zombies to keep it thriving and mutating. Could it too mean the last of us?
