Precrime

Recall the PK Dick movie Minority Report. But instead of the precogs in the story who foretell crimes before they happen we'll have AIs doing that job. This is part of the plot of the new TV series Class of '09, which follows some FBI agents in the past, present and future. Their future involves such an AI that predicts crimes in advance and allows for arrest and prosecution before actually committing any crime.

 

Which of course brings us to a present problem. We have mass killings seemingly every other day in the US. The Democrats want to ban the assault rifles that do mass killings and institute other reforms while the Republicans just blame disturbed people as the problem but not guns. We already have the tech to identify these disturbed people and the ability to keep firearms out of their hands. Yet we still have Republicans refusing to pass laws to do so with paranoia of some Deep State plot to eliminate access to all guns for everyone.
