Malaphor is the wrong word for these creative inventions. The prefix mal- indicates something wrong, as if the only possibility is that someone made an unconscious or ill-informed mistake. Whereas these mixed metaphors are in fact ways to consciously add meaning and nuance beyond the traditional and trite examples. Hence they should more properly be called moraphors.
