You've heard this complaint time and again, that posting and sharing on social media has no effect on politics or elections. Then why is it that according the the Mueller Report Russia's US media attacks "included a social media 'information warfare' campaign that 'favored' candidate Trump." And why is it that Cambridge Analytica hacked Facebook for millions of profiles to "predict and influence choices at the ballot box." The answer is obvious: Because posting on social media has a tremendous political impact.
Granted we as individuals don't have the resources or power to influence much on those platforms. But we collectively, through sharing information with our friends, and they with their friends etc. does indeed have a huge impact when that sharing reaches into the millions. And it does when we individually take responsibility.
We also have to consider who it is that feeds the lie that our posting and sharing of social media is ineffective. It is the very same forces noted above who use these platforms to manipulate us. Unfortunately too many of us buy into their lies and feel there's nothing we can do about it so why bother. But we not only can but must do our duty to democracy by collectively sharing the truth. There's a lot more of us than them. And they know that when we get active we defeat them. Take back your power and post and share often!
