Continuing the last post, his post on dealing with alt-right trolls highlights this necessity. While he specifically addresses younger alt-right trolls, for me it also applies to the much more experienced fascists who intentionally and effectively employ weaponized narrative.
Abramson is among other things a metamodernist. Unfortunately too many in that movement naively think civilized debate is how you deal with everything, including fascism. A relevant excerpt:
"We need to be able to troll as well as the alt-right does when necessary. [...] I'm not above shit-posting alt-right trolls or referencing their stupid ass tweener memes if doing so shows the resilience of progressivism. [...] We should all understand alt-right trolls well enough to be able to clean their damn clocks online whenever we feel like it."
