EU gives Twitter an ultimatum

Up to now the EU had a voluntary code to fight disinformation. Musk pulled out of it. Consequently "under Elon Musk's ownership, moderation at Twitter has reportedly been greatly reduced - which critics say has allowed an increase in the spread of disinformation. [...] Last month, the BBC found hundreds of Russian and Chinese state propaganda accounts were thriving on Twitter."

So on August 25 the EU will institute the Digital Services Act which requires users "to legally comply" with its rules.

"The law will mean Twitter will have to have a mechanism for users to flag illegal content, act upon notifications 'expeditiously' and put in measures to address the spread of disinformation."

No doubt Musk will cry it violates 'freedom of speech,' which to him means freedom to lie.
