In this interview Chomsky reiterates that we need a working-class politics like Sanders represented to defeat the oligarchs who are hell bent on destroying democracy. And yet "traditional left-wing parties are becoming parties more and more of the educated elites."
Unfortunately
Americans for the most part are, as he noted, living under far more
favorable conditions than other places in the world under far more dire circumstances. Thus they are much more inclined to accept the
status quo instead of take to the streets in protest, get involved
politically in the class war fight or implement practical, populist
solutions like those proposed by progressives. Or those not so fortunate
are not in any position to do so.
Instead
we tend more toward dreaming of a better socially engineered world
designed by our own elite intelligentsia who are far removed from the
general plight of most Americans. Therefore their top-down designs are
devoid of such practical, middle-out solutions that might actually
address how to remediate our plight. It turns out our own evolved or
developed elites are still playing under the same rules that created the
situation instead of taking up Chomsky's working-class politics.
