Current NM Public Health ordered extended to 8/16/21

According to this news report. "However, in accordance with the latest official guidance from the CDC issued July 27, the State now recommends that fully vaccinated New Mexicans wear a face-covering in indoor settings. Albuquerque Public Schools, the University of New Mexico, and the VA Regional Offices have revised their mask policies, requiring masks for vaccinated people."

So it "recommends" the fully vaccinated wear masks indoors. That language doesn't sound like a blanket mask mandate for everyone though. It leaves open the unvaxxed to continue to go without masks. However the language of the latest Order makes clear the following:

"Fully vaccinated individuals are not required to wear a mask unless otherwise recommended by the latest official guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)." The latest CDC guidelines states: "To maximize protection from the Delta variant and prevent possibly spreading it to others, wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission." That language is unambiguous: It does not "recommend" it but says "wear a mask" in those defined areas. Those areas include Bernallilo and Santa Fe counties, among others.

So you know this is going to come down to the anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers saying it is not a mask mandate. And unfortunately they'll have a point. The CDC is clear; the extended NM health order is not. Good job NM for allowing Delta to continue to ravage our State with your vacuous hedging.

FL Governor refuses mitigation as Delta ravages his State

Florida has the highest Delta spike in the nation. People there are getting sick and dying, their hospitals beds are full. And yet DeSantis will overturn any local mask mandates, even those meant to protect children in schools. This is what Twitiotitis does to a person. It's a disease that is even worse than Covid and responsible for far more harm.

Pfizer on its booster

Pfizer: While the original full vaccine is still 97% effective against severe disease, it also decreases its effectiveness against symptomatic disease 6% every two months. And that study was done before the Delta spread. Hence the need for a booster, especially for the elderly and those with preexisting conditions.

So WTF is up with the CDC on holding off on boosters? They don't want to panic us? The Delta variant and the latest CDC stats have already done that. So forget public relations and get back to public health.

Quillette: Weinstein is a dangerous quack

Quillette exposes Bret Weinstein for what he is on the pandemic: A conspiracy theorist peddling quack elixirs. See the link for the very specific details.

"Recently, Weinstein has graduated from entertaining theories that might not be right but could do no harm, to theories that cannot be right and are sure to do harm. Because of Weinstein’s prominence, and the trust his listeners place in him, this harm can be measured and is considerable. His promotion of outright quackery, during a pandemic that has killed more Americans than any catastrophe since the Civil War, is immoral."

"It is Weinstein’s right under the First Amendment to say all of this. But let’s not confuse a right to say something with something being right to say. The consequences of Weinstein’s caper will be ruinous. COVID-19’s Delta variant, twice as contagious and possibly more lethal than the original strain, is ravaging the world. Its effects have been devastating in India, and among the unvaccinated in the UK."

Twitler asked US Atty. General to overturn the election

Seriously. What is it going to take for the AG to prosecute this fascist madman?

"Former President Donald Trump pressured acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen to declare that the election was corrupt in an attempt to help Republican members of Congress try to overturn the election result, according to notes of a December 2020 call Trump held with Rosen and acting deputy attorney general Richard Donoghue.

"During the December 27, 2020, call, Trump pressured Rosen and Donoghue to falsely declare the election 'illegal' and 'corrupt' even after the Justice Department had not uncovered evidence of widespread voter fraud. 'Just say that the election was corrupt + leave the rest to me and the R. Congressmen,' Trump said on the call, according to Donoghue's notes."

CDC confirms leaked document

To update this post, the CDC confirmed what was in the leaked document. This is of significance:

"The study suggests that even jurisdictions without substantial or high COVID-19 transmission might consider expanding prevention strategies, including masking in indoor public settings regardless of vaccination status.'"

It doesn't make sense

Logically, that is. But the reason is that they want to eliminate democracy and institute fascism. And they are willing to sacrifice human lives to that end.

Lady Gaga stars in House of Gucci

Leaked CDC document on Delta

Bad news. Even worse than we thought. 75% of new cases in Singapore are among the vaccinated. 74% of the vaccinated were involved in a July 4 outbreak in Provincetown MA, most showing symptoms with 7 hospitalized.

It causes more severe illness. It's more contagious than the common cold, even among the vaccinated. The viral loads of the vaccinated are similar to the unvaccinated. There is a higher risk of hospitalization and death for older age groups and the immunocompromised regardless of vaccination status. Boosters for this demographic will likely be required.

And this is disturbing, given the CDC only recommended wearing masks in areas of substantial or high infection: "The CDC’s revised mask guidance stops short of what the internal document calls for. 'Given higher transmissibility and current vaccine coverage, universal masking is essential to reduce transmission of the Delta variant.'"

Why Cannabis isn't legal nationally

Well if cannabis were made legal nationally then of course Big Pharma would get in the business. And then and only then would government support it as a treatment because then they'd be bought off to support it like they are with Valium. But of course then Big Pharma would lose out on Valium and other drug sales so they will not allow government to legalize cannabis in the first place. That cannabis helps people better than their drugs is irrelevant to them, as they're not in the helping people business.

Ball challenges Bernie

In this clip Krystal asks Bernie why Biden is not doing everything in his power to end the filibuster. Unfortunately Bernie gives the tired excuse that you don't know what goes on behind closed doors. We don't need to because we see the results: The filibuster is still there so whatever Biden is doing behind those doors isn't working.

Krystal then hits Bernie with something he cannot deny. Bernie, while campaigning, said that he'd fight for ending the filibuster by going to for example Manchin's State and campaigning there hard for it. She asks why Biden is not doing it and Bernie has to sort of agree that maybe he should. But he's not. He's not even agreeing that the filibuster should go.

I know Bernie has to now be more diplomatic to keep on the good side of Biden and his fellow Senators if he wants to get their support on Bills like the bi-partisan infrastructure Bill. But recall Bernie claimed he'd filibuster that Bill himself if a companion infrastructure Bill doesn't also pass via reconciliation, one that puts back in all the stuff Repugs took out of the stripped down version. And apparently that was an empty threat and the opposition knew it.

Abq. Dance Club vax only policy

They are abiding by the Abq. Square Dance Center guidelines of vax only. While I applaud this responsible policy, unfortunately for me it's too little too late. Given the new information that the unvaccinated are transmitting Delta in huge numbers, that the vaccinated can get it too and transmit it, and that there are increasing cases of mixed vaxxed and unvaxxed groups spreading it among each other, the dance pool is already polluted. Even the vaxxed now could be carrying and transmitting it at a vax only dance. I think my partner dance days are over.

Who is causing the pandemic spike?

Covid deniers and anti-vaxxers driving the increased variants, transmission rates, hospitalizations and deaths. And mostly among themselves but they are taking some of us with them.

Bernalillo County NM area of substantial transmission

According to the new CDC guideline, Bernalillo County is in an area of substantial Covid transmission and therefore should be requiring, not suggesting, that everyone wear masks in public places indoors. We're awaiting the new NM Public Health Order to see if we follow through on that.

PS: And why do we have an increased transmission rate putting us in this situation? Because the unvaccinated are causing it. Blame them, not the CDC for trying to promote public health by returning to procedures that reduced that rate in the first place. If you want to get this pandemic under control then get vaccinated and wear a damned mask.

Brains sync as people interact

Article in Discover magazine. Some research that supports the extended mind theory.

"Researchers have observed people’s neural activity while they complete cognitive tasks with techniques like EEG, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), which is a machine that detects where oxygenated blood is flowing in the brain. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) also detects blood flow in the brain. With these techniques, scientists have peered into people’s minds as they complete tasks in pairs and groups. They noticed something unexpected: Functional links appeared across people’s brains when they cooperated during certain tasks. In other words, different people’s neural oscillations aligned when they cooperated."

"Froese argues that a shift in our understanding of consciousness is warranted. Namely, he supports an 'extension of consciousness.' Froese isn’t suggesting that consciousness lacks a neural basis; however, an individual’s neural activity is embodied in their interactions with the world. Now, we realize that other people may play a role. The conscious mind’s boundaries could also be under constant renegotiation during exchanges with the environment and other people, Froese explained in a 2020 Neuroscience of Consciousness article. When we socialize, inter-brain synchronization neurally binds us together and extends consciousness."

What the Capitol officers want from the investigation

Some testimony of the other Capitol Police officers below. They just want to find out if anyone in public office was responsible for inciting, coordinating or downplaying this violence, or obstructing its investigation. They just want to know who sent the hit man on them and our Constitution. As do the rest of us who want to preserve our democracy against a fascist assault.

This is great. As the American people watch this the truth will destroy the Repugnacon  lies. Which is exactly whey they didn't want us ever to see it. But we did and will remember it come time to vote again. Which is of course why Repugs are going crazy with increased voter suppression laws and restrictions.

CDC releases mask guidelines

Update: The CDC did note the following in their new guidelines, the first time I've seen this admission: "If you are fully vaccinated and become infected with the Delta variant, you can spread the virus to others."

Continuing this post and as expected, the CDC released their new guidelines (also here). And they are as noted in the previous post. So it gives an excuse for those areas not now in the high infection category to continue to keep the same vaccinated no mask policy without proof allowing the unvaccinated to also demask and spread Delta.

The CDC though included this: "The agency also recommends that all teachers, staff and students of K-12 schools wear masks, even if they are vaccinated." This is in contradiction to what the NM Dept. of Education released yesterday, saying that teachers and students in junior and high schools will not be required to wear masks. Will that change now in light of the new CDC guideline?

Who is dividing the Democratic Party?

It's the establishment Democrats who are being bought off by their corporate donors. There is no escaping that fact. But it sure is entertaining to watch them and their apologists try to deny and spin it. Unfortunately for we the people the results ain't so funny.

William Gibson interview: Rewriting history

In the middle of writing Agency he had to stop and change it because of real world events, in this case the election of Twitler. So he had to create a time-travel of sorts trope to handle it. When he said the following it is exactly what has always happened in history: That is, change the so-called facts of it to promote your propaganda. We see it in the US with conservatives trying to erase the teaching of racism in history classes, as well as trying to reframe the Jan. 6 insurrection as well-meaning, peaceful protesters. Good thing the Jan. 6 committee has today started to bring out what really happened so that the fascists cannot believably rewrite it.

"My specific time travel gimmick in these books is that it’s impossible to physically visit the past, so you have to do it digitally. But immediately on contacting the past you create a stub, because that contact didn’t happen in your past so you create an alternate history. And that spares me all of that tedious paradoxical stuff that bogs down time travel stories."

CDC to issue new mask guidelines for the vaccinated

Advising them to wear indoors in "parts of the country where COVID-19 transmission rates are particularly high." And yet even in areas where those transmission rates aren't that high yet they might also become so given that there is "data suggesting fully vaccinated people are not only contracting COVID but might be carrying higher viral levels than previously thought, increasing the risk of infecting others." So great, let's have the areas with lower rates catch up to the higher ones, since no mask policies let both the vaccinated and the unvaccinated continue to spread it.

Identity politics in Star Trek Discovery

Star Trek Discovery shows that these issues are still relevant. We haven't moved past them as some idealistic fans suppose, that in some future utopia the Federation is beyond all that. That supposed projected Federation is more likely one that just swept such issues under the rug and denies they still exist. It's sort of like how Repugnacons are trying to erase the history of racism and return to when white people ruled the world. Or when the US Supreme Corp decided to gut the Voting Rights Act proclaiming racism was over. Pretending identity issues are over and/or irrelevant doesn't "make it so number one."

Fauci on CDC masking policy for the vaccinated

He confirmed the CDC is considering modifying its mask policy but that it should be a local decision depending on increasing infections whether to require masks in public for everyone, including the vaccinated. It sounds like passing the buck to me and giving local communities an easy excuse not to do it, saying the CDC isn't requiring it so we won't either.  Good job CDC, allowing Delta to run wild.

Hartmann: Don't negotiate with bullies

Which pretty much is now the entire Repugnacon Party. They will never negotiate in good faith. All they know is to fight and win. The only way to respond to bullies is to fight them and beat them. And per the last post, to do that we need to know how to fight.

"Democrats must stop giving in to grifter bullies. If you don’t take on bullies, they keep going further and further until either they win or you fight back and defeat them. [...] Bullies never stop. And, most importantly, every time they win they set their sights on the next conquest.  Giving in to their demands only creates a newer and more elaborate set of demands."

NM Delta variant update

NM Secretary of Health and Human Services said half of all new Covid cases are Delta. But this is particularly troubling:

"Lots of situations with small groups of people, particularly with vaccinated and unvaccinated people together, where almost everyone that was there gets covid. Including the vaccinated people which is very worrisome."

There are now over 1000 breakthrough cases. Will this change the public health order?

Pelosi appoints Kinzinger (R) to Jan. 6 committee

And of course the Repug Party is terrified to have both him and Cheney on it, since both of them are dedicated to finding out the truth. And that truth includes Twitler and some Party members as accomplices in that insurrection. A video interview with Kinzinger is below and you can see why he scares the shit out of them.

Hartmann: Why are some Repugs now promoting vaccines?

For the longest time Repugs created vaccine hesitancy to cause disease and death so they could blame it on Biden and Dems. But now that the Delta variant is burning through all those Repug counties, which are the majority of new cases, are they finally realizing their strategy backfired and that they will now take the rightful blame for it?

Nina Turner: For we the people

In sharp distinction from the aforementioned Dem Party, who are funding a huge campaign against her in the primary with establishment shills like Hillary and Clyburn.

Reich on Dem Party corruption

The following are excerpts from his FB post. Progressives have proven that candidates DO NOT need big money to finance their campaigns. If you truly represent we the people then our small dollar donations in massive numbers can counter those of big money. But to get we the people to donate to you then you have to represent us, not big money. Since they haven't learned this lesson the only conclusion we can draw is that they're happy with being bought and paid for by big money and don't give a flying shit about we the people.

"Yet while Biden and Democratic leaders are openly negotiating with holdout senators for Biden’s stimulus and infrastructure proposals, they aren’t exerting similar pressure when it comes to voting rights and elections. In fact, Biden now says he won’t take on the filibuster, which stands firmly in the way. What gives? Part of the explanation, I think, lies with an outside group that has almost as much influence on the Democratic Party as on the Republicans, and which isn’t particularly enthusiastic about election reform: the moneyed interests bankrolling both parties."

"The Democrats’ proposed For the People Act admirably takes on both parts of the coalition. It sets minimum national standards for voting, and it seeks to get big money out of politics through public financing of election campaigns. Yet this comprehensiveness may explain why the Act is now stalled in the Senate. Biden and Democratic leaders are firmly against white supremacists but are not impervious to the wishes of wealth supremacists. After all, to win elections they need likely Democrats to vote but also need big money to finance their campaigns."

Israel: Pfizer vax now only 39% effective

At preventing infection and symptomatic illness according to their Ministry of Health. Their previous study two weeks ago noted 64% effectiveness. It still proves highly effective against hospitalization (92%) and and severe illness (91%). They also approved booster shots for the immunocompromised. While Delta is much more contagious than other strains, there is no data in the link about that with vaccination. If those vaxxed can get infected it's reasonable to speculate they could also be contagious.

Delta update

According to Dr. Agus, Delta is a completely new virus that challenges previous 'business as usual' procedures adopted for the original version after vaccination: No masks or social distancing. And since proof of vax is not mandated by govt. the unvaxxed are doing it too and rapidly spreading Delta. Hence it is time to consider such mandates. For example, France requires vax to go into public venues which has driven up their vax rate.

But of course the anti-vaxxers' excuse is that mandates are against personal freedom. There have always been limitations to personal freedom. And public health is one of them. You do not have the freedom to spread a dangerous and deadly disease to others. You can try to deny that is what you are doing but the medical science doesn't support your mistaken belief. If you want to participate in public life then you must obey public rules, one the them being get a vax. If not then you don't get to play with the rest of us.

In closing, any dance venue that continues to not require proof of vax to participate can no longer deny they are contributing the the spread of this pandemic. You can make excuses that you really do care but you can't do anything about it. That is a lie. You can require proof of vax and enforce it. If you don't then admit to your complicity instead of making excuses. And take responsibility when your venue or event spreads this deadly disease. Same goes for individuals who support such irresponsible policies by attending such venues and events.

Avoid it like the plague?

Unless you've been programmed to deny the plague by those who want to sacrifice your lives for their own purposes. Which is itself a plague all its own being gleefully embraced rather than avoided.

Biden deflects on filibuster, again

Unfortunately, Biden is trying to lay to responsibility for addressing voter suppression Bills on activists. And the activists have made it clear that while their efforts are part of the solution, federal law is the primary and necessary element to protect democracy. Activism cannot stop Repug States from passing laws that gerrymander their districts, suppress the vote and create partisan committees that can overturn election results. That is why the For the People Act must pass the Senate, and to do that the filibuster must be eliminated. This cannot get done without you Joe. Quit making excuses and do you damned job.

Chomsky: 10 mass media propaganda strategies

From this source:

1. The strategy of distraction: The primary element of social control is the strategy of distraction which is to divert public attention from important issues and changes determined by the political and economic elites, by the technique of flood or flooding continuous distractions and insignificant information. Distraction strategy is also essential to prevent the public interest in the essential knowledge in the area of the science, economics, psychology, neurobiology and cybernetics. Quote from text Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars: “Maintaining public attention diverted away from the real social problems, captivated by matters of no real importance. Keep the public busy, busy, busy, no time to think, back to farm and other animals”.

2. Create problems, then offer solutions: This method is also called “problem -reaction- solution.” It creates a problem, a “situation” referred to cause some reaction in the audience, so this is the principal of the steps that you want to accept. For example: Let it unfold and intensify urban violence, or arrange for bloody attacks in order that the public is the applicant’s security laws and policies to the detriment of freedom; Or create an economic crisis to accept as a necessary evil retreat of social rights and the dismantling of public services.

3. The gradual strategy: Acceptance to an unacceptable degree, just apply it gradually, dropper, for consecutive years. That is how they radically new socioeconomic conditions (neoliberalism) were imposed during the 1980s and 1990s: • the minimal state • privatization • precariousness • flexibility • massive unemployment • wages • do not guarantee a decent income, ...so many changes that have brought about a revolution, if they had been applied once.

4. The strategy of deferring: Another way to accept an unpopular decision is to present it as “painful and necessary”, gaining public acceptance, at the time for future application. It is easier to accept that a future sacrifice of immediate slaughter:  First, because the effort is not used immediately  Then, because the public, masses, is always the tendency to expect naively that “everything will be better tomorrow” and that the sacrifice required may be avoided This gives the public more time to get used to the idea of change and accept it with resignation when the time comes.

5. Go to the public as a little child: Most of the advertising to the general public uses speech, argument, people and particularly children’s intonation, often close to the weakness, as if the viewer were a little child or a mentally deficient. The harder one tries to deceive the viewer look, the more it tends to adopt a tone infantilizing. Why? (see Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars) “If one goes to a person as if she had the age of 12 years or less, then, because of suggestion, she tends with a certain probability that a response or reaction also devoid of a critical sense as a person 12 years or younger.”

6. Use the emotional side more than the reflection: Making use of the emotional aspect is a classic technique for causing a short circuit on rational analysis, and finally to the critical sense of the individual. Furthermore, the use of emotional register to open the door to the unconscious for implantation or grafting ideas, desires, fears and anxieties, compulsions, or induce behaviors…

7. Keep the public in ignorance and mediocrity: Making the public incapable of understanding the technologies and methods used to control and enslavement. How? (see Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars) “The quality of education given to the lower social classes must be the poor and mediocre as possible so that the gap of ignorance it plans among the lower classes and upper classes is and remains impossible to attain for the lower classes.”

8. To encourage the public to be complacent with mediocrity: Promote the public to believe that the fact is fashionable to be stupid, vulgar and uneducated…

9. Self-blame Strengthen: To let individual blame for their misfortune, because of the failure of their intelligence, their abilities, or their efforts. So, instead of rebelling against the economic system, the individual auto-devaluate and guilt himself, which creates a depression, one of whose effects is to inhibit its action. And, without action, there is no revolution!

10. Getting to know the individuals better than they know themselves: Over the past 50 years, advances of accelerated science has generated a growing gap between public knowledge and those owned and operated by dominant elites. Thanks to biology, neurobiology and applied psychology, the “system” has enjoyed a sophisticated understanding of human beings, both physically and psychologically. The system has gotten better acquainted with the common man more than he knows himself. This means that, in most cases, the system exerts greater control and great power over individuals, greater than that of individuals about themselves.

But that would be teaching history

And we can't have that!

Freedumb

See this Fiore video on these Freedumb loving morons.  These Twitiots have been programmed to believe they are defending their freedom by being anti-mask and anti-vax. But being a mindless robot is not freedom but slavery, mere cannon-fodder to be sacrificed on the altar of the fascists.

I know, it's not PC to call them what they are. We're supposed to be kind to them, to try to persuade them to protect themselves and others. But in case you haven't noticed, and if not you are at best naive, the Twitiots are far beyond reason and determined to not only kill themselves but everyone around them just like they were programmed to do.

The only way to actually help them is to defeat the fascists and counter their programming. And that ain't no easy task. But we've done it before and we can do it again. But not by just being kind to the victims but instead fierce with their controllers. Not doing the latter is tantamount to complicity and is itself pretty dumb.

Update: Actually one way to increase vax rates is for the government at all levels to require proof of vax at all public events, indoor and out. Like sporting events and concerts. Yeah, we'll still have the morons who won't do it no matter what, but it will force the others who are just hesitant to consider it. And such measures are in the name of real freedom, freedom to have your health and ensure that others do too. Without that you're not free to do much of anything else except be dumb.

Factcheck on latest Fauci/Paul fight

Continuing this post, Factcheck.org did another one on the latest Rand Paul - Fauci boxing match. Fauci won this round too. Unless of course some of you will no doubt accuse the fact checkers as being part of this grand Deep State conspiracy to hide the truth! Some highlights:

"Paul said that 'all the evidence is pointing that it came from the lab,' but there is no evidence linking the novel coronavirus to a lab — only speculation."

"There’s no dispute that some U.S. funding went to China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology. The disagreement is over whether the research the lab conducted with the money was gain-of-function research. [...] There’s no evidence that Fauci lied to Congress, as Paul asserted in the July 20 hearing, given that the NIH unequivocally backs up Fauci’s statement that the grant-backed research 'was judged by qualified staff up and down the chain as not being gain-of-function.'"

Fact check on 'gain-of-function' research and controversy

Here is their first article dated 5/11/21. Here is their 6/25/21 update. There is a lot of specific detail in both so I suggest reading them. In both articles the definition of gain-of-function is "modifications that aim to make a virus more dangerous or infectious to study potential disease pathways." And there is no proof that is what occurred. Nor is gain-of-function in the EcoHealth grant received by the NIH. Shi, who heads the Wuhan lab, said "her lab had never conducted experiments 'that enhance the virulence of viruses.'"

So Rand Paul and the paranoids are speculating at best in this scenario. And worse, using the speculation to intentionally create doubt about the virus' origins to downplay the vaccines as part of the same apparent corrupt process. As usual, prove your claims or STFU. To date there is zero proof so one has to question the claims and their motivation instead.

Biden still living in fantasy land on filibuster

At a recent CNN interview he criticized the Repugnacon voter suppression efforts as "Jim Crow on steroids," but nevertheless said that "he supports the filibuster and wants to pass a federal voting rights bill without nuking it." He went on: "I want to make sure we bring along, not just all the Democrats, we bring along Republicans who I know know better, they know better than this."

To borrow on of Joe's expressions: "Come on man." I mean seriously, WTF? At this point you cannot believe that any Repug is going to go along with the For the People Act. You can't even get members of your own Party to go along with it. Well, maybe you could but you aren't applying the pressure needed to do so. And you still want to preserve the filibuster knowing it kills the very Act that protects the voting rights you say to support? You can't be that naive or stupid so I just can't believe you.

Thank you, as those two were only selected in the first place by McCarthy to obstruct the inquiry. Pelosi said the other 3 Repug recommendations could stay but McCarthy in a hissy fit pulled them out too. Good. We don't need no stinking obstructionists on the committee.

Fauci schools Paul

Over this Covid "gain of function" claim, that the US funded research in the Wuhan lab to increase the virus' capabilities. Paul is spewing this conspiracy theory that is coming from both the paranoid left and right and that Fauci is lying about it. But as Fauci tries to explain, but Paul won't let him, it is nothing more than a conspiracy theory. And it is one insidiously designed to cast doubt about the vaccine so fewer people take it and perpetuate the pandemic.

Breakthrough cases in Congress, White House among vaccinated

Per this report a number of vaccinated Congresspeople and staff, and some vaccinated White House staff, have contracted the virus recently. As Delta makes up more than 83% of new cases now it is assumed that Delta was among the aforementioned. Delta is highly contagious but the report does not note whether those breakthrough cases among the vaccinated were also highly contagious. Again it must be assumed that at least some of them are.

Given these facts it should be advised that even the vaccinated continue to wear masks indoors in public places to protect not only themselves but others. Anything less is being naive and irresponsible. You know, the qualities of typical, self-involved Americans.

Now apply this to the pandemic

Unfortunately in Covid's case some just don't feel the heat and death around them so deny it's happening. And/or they believe the deliberate misinformation and lies they are being fed for political purposes. But it's the same difference, as the Delta variant is right now a conflagration burning across America even more dangerous and destructive than the wild fires doing the same.

So why isn't Garland doing this?

It is necessary to preserve democracy. So WTF is going on then?

Back to normal?

And normal is killing us too. We thought the pandemic would wake us up and we'd evolve past the old normal. But here we are. Oh, and Delta is here so pull your head outta your ass cuz we're going backwards thanks to this 'back to normal' BS.

Why is CDC tracking of breakthroughs inadequate?

They are tracking when the breakthroughs cause serious illness and death. But why not when they just cause symptoms at all or even when asymptomatic? And whether those breakthroughs are transmissible? The CDC guidelines recommend not even getting tested for the asymptomatic. Again, something smells rotten here.

LA's indoor mask mandate

Given that requiring proof of vax in public places is apparently not feasible,* and that the so-called 'honor' system asking only the vaxxed to go maskless isn't working, LA County did the only other responsible thing in reinstating  the mandate. And with the much more contagious Delta variant causing infections to go up across the country it is a necessary step for all of us. Unfortunately the CDC doesn't seem inclined to do it nationally so it's up to individual communities to take the lead.

* And actually it can be easily done but businesses and the government are too lazy to protect public health in favor of an improving economy.

The Repugnacons on the Jan. 6 committee

Seriously. WTF is up with having a bi-partisan committee to investigate Jan. 6 when the Repugs on it were either in on it (like Jordan) or are only there to subvert it (like the rest). Why are we not having a special prosecutor or independent counsel doing this? Why would the Democrats even agree to this? Something smells rotten in Washington. But I guess we're so used to the stench that we no longer even notice it.

Wake up and smell the shit people. This ain't good enough. And when TF is the Attorney General going to investigate and prosecute the Congressional co-conspirators to Jan. 6? Ever?  Instead we put them on the committee investigating themselves? Again, the corruption is enough to make anyone with a conscience and sense of duty to democracy wretch.

Rep. Gallego: Twit is dumb and didn't do this alone

In his post he lays out this actual, much more scary scenario. This coup business is far from over folks. We must prosecute those involved. Pay attention and get active.  He said:

"The full core of our military is not always going to be our safety net. Think about this. General Flynn could have ostensibly been back in the Pentagon. He was a Q-Anon nut, as you can get. It is the lawyers; it is civilian people; it is the secretaries of his cabinet that are now serving on corporate boards and treated like they were not part of the insurrection that enabled this feeble man. Trump is a very dumb man. He could not have done this on his own. The fact is that there were active people that were really smart about the operational parts of government that put him in this position and attempted a coup. So we just can't rely on the military. We also have to make sure that we have civil society and civil servants that are actually going to protect the constitution. And when they don't, there should be consequences. We shouldn't just reinvite them into society as if nothing happened."

Democrats winning strategy

Do it and you'll win now and every time. Don't and you won't. And if you don't we must question if you even want to win despite the claims to the contrary.

Hartmann: Democracy v. autocracy

He argues that governments can be roughly categorized in these two buckets. And that the Repugnacon Party falls squarely in the autocracy category while the Democratic Party falls within democracy. (The latter for the most part, though its establishment branch definitely leans heavily oligarchic.) Hartmann provides a brief history of the Repug Party to make his case.

"In a democracy, governance is conducted in accordance with the wishes of the majority of the people. Typically today that will is expressed through majority-wins voting for representatives, and that governance is conducted within the constraints of a constitution and common law; what the Founders called 'a republican form of government.' Starting in the late 1600s, this form of government and its variations were also often defined as 'liberal.'

"In autocratic forms of government the will of the majority of the people is secondary to the will of those in power. That would include priests and mullahs who claim to rule by a god’s will (theocracy); a bureaucracy that purports to know what’s best for the people (communism); a puppet government elected as a result of moneyed interests controlling public opinion (oligarchy/fascism/conservatism); and a government that excludes portions of the populace because of their economic status, race or religion (fascist/Nazi/white supremacist/oligarchy/conservative)."

Ignorance is bliss(tering)

The cartoon highlights the danger of forgetting how our government was almost overthrown by a dictator pulling a coup. And that we must not only remember it but do something about it so it doesn't happen again. Make no mistake: The fascists are far from done. Ignore the blister and the infection can kill.

Nina Turner with PDA America

She was a featured speaker at yesterday's Progressive Democrats of America national town hall. She's not only a fierce progressive but her sermon-style presentation is an excellent example of the passionate rhetoric that uplifts and motivates us to action. We need her in Congress so please support her campaign.

Billie Eilish - Your Power

New single just released today. Lyrics here. It appears to be about the relationship of an older guy manipulating a younger woman. And the line about losing a contract if people find out makes me wonder if it's about Billie and a record executive. This theme is reiterated in another of her recent songs, NDA, about a non-disclosure agreement.

Freedom for whom? And about what?

Fascists hate the freedom to tell the truth. And love the freedom to manipulate the public with lies to despise that truth. Pluralistic democratic freedom or white fascist slavery. Your choice.

Why Liz Cheney wants an independent Jan. 6 commission

And Dim Jordan and his co-conspirators including Twitler, do not. While I disagree with Liz on many things she is at least right about this.

Delta variant gives thanks to anti-vaxxers

In this video cartoon by Mark Fiore.

FL seeing Delta surge

Why? Largely due to Pox Views and their Governor downplaying both vaccines and the virus. While the hardest hit areas are those with low vax rates, it's also happening in areas with high vax rates among the unvaxxed. According to this story:

Prof Peter Hotez MD PhD:

"On June 22 Florida Gov DeSantis and our colleague, Laura Ingraham, mocked me on Fox for predicting the return of COVID19 to the Southern US. As of today, Florida has the 2nd highest rate of Covid nationally +257% rise over last 14 days, with Jacksonville area among worst affected.

"Laura said I just 'couldn’t let the pandemic go,' when in fact her news network worked overtime to discredit vaccines and weaponize health communication to suppress vaccination rates in the South. In so doing they facilitated a COVID19 resurgence in the face of the delta variant."

Johnstone on govt/big tech alliance to censor

Ok on her first point, that given the cozy relationship between govt. and big tech it's not defensible that the latter is in the private v. the public sphere. But I disagree with her that any speech is permissible; it is not per the free speech exceptions to the 1st Amendment. One of those exceptions is false statements of fact, the issue at hand in her argument. In particular, the lies being propagated on social media about the pandemic, which has a huge public interest impact on the health of the nation. And I'm in agreement that such misinformation or down right lies need to be called out, refuted and kicked off public platforms for public safety.

The other issue though is that the White House had admitted that they sent a list of accounts to the social media companies of those who tend to be the biggest liars on the issue. Yes, I see the problem with that. The government should stay out of it and let the companies use independent fact checkers to determine the truth or falsity of information to decide what to allow or not on their platforms.

However I'm not sure that these companies obey what the government says about those on the list and just ban those accounts out of hand. That's how it's presented in the linked article and by Greenwald therein. If that's the case then sure, that's unacceptable. But do the companies take that list and then do their own fact checking and decide what to allow or not? The article assumes that there's quid pro quo between them without providing the proof that there is. Which is not saying there isn't, but the anti-government types need to prove it rather than just assuming the worst here.

And make no mistake whatsoever: I am and always have been a constant critic of the government/business oligarchic fascism. If the allegations are true count me in. But we need to prove it first. There's plenty of proof of it elsewhere that I write about daily, including and especially in both Parties being captive to it.

PS: Pox Views of course ran with this story too and framed it as govt. spying to Press Secretary Psaki. She had a good response in that she reframed it as people are getting sick and dying because of the misinformation and the the government has a responsibility to protect the public from such harm. It is especially so since the misinformation (outfight lies) are leading people to fear the vaccine which is indeed causing the Delta spike with more death and disease.

The difference between dogs and cats

Appy Road

Put down your f___ing phone when you cross the road. And when you drive a car. And when you're walking down the sidewalk. Pretty much just put it down most of the time. It's eating your brain and making you a dangerous zombie.

LA County reinstitutes indoor mask mandate

Whether vaccinated or not. This is due to the spike caused by Delta. They have a 61% vax rate for those over 16. It's good to see some places are dealing with the reality of the situation.

Their exit strategy from democracy

Just ask the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs.

Update on Delta, boosters and new vaccine

This PSA discusses how Covid produces variants. And that Delta is more contagious. It also reports on Pfizer making a booster shot and developing a new vaccine that specifically targets Delta. And yet it concludes that experts agree that a booster, and presumably the Delta vaccine, are not necessary at this time.

Something just doesn't smell right with this media campaign to give assurances to the public so that we continue on the path of irresponsible behavior for the sake of a good economy. Is Pfizer just doing this to make more money? Or do they have some evidence that indeed we need to take more precautions given other countries' experience with Delta and the WHO guidance based thereon?

Time will tell. And unfortunately at the expense of public health and lives. But hey, we have to expect some collateral damage for the economy, right? We have to determine just how many lives to sacrifice for the greater good, eh? Problem is, what is the greater good and for whom?

Chairman of Joint Chiefs on Twitler

According to a new book, not only did General Milley compare Twit and his followers to Nazis, he and other military leaders prepared how to thwart a possible coup attempt. This is how close we came to a fascist takeover. And rest assured, the Twitiots are not giving up on this dream; to the contrary, it's still full steam ahead.

Sirota interview on what's necessary

They discuss how it's imperative that progressives use the power of their veto to force issues. The Repugs do it all the time. They're willing to sabotage any and everything to cater to their corporate masters. And so are the establishment Dem Party. So if we the people are to have any chance of getting any policy that supports the working class then progressives must hold the line.

Now we have them threatening to do that with the two different infrastructure Bills but when push comes to shove, and it will, will they follow through? And even far more importantly, why aren't they doing this with every piece of Biden's agenda unless he stands strong for ending the filibuster? It wasn't even mentioned in his latest speech. If that's not done then nothing is going to get past the Senate and all of his proposals are dead on arrival. Withholding their votes is right now their only leverage over Biden. And their only leverage over Repug obstruction is to eliminate the filibuster. Now is the time to fight like hell for democracy because otherwise we will have lost it.

Sirota sums it all up: "They don't want to do the right thing enough to use the tactics necessary. And that is essentially the epitaph of the Democratic Party. And it the era of climate change it may be the epitaph of human civilization" (53:38).

We the people have a choice. We can either continually motivate our progressive politicians to fight for us or we can make excuses and surrender to the status quo and let fascism take over our country. We must hold our progressive reps' feet to the fire because otherwise literal fires are burning down our lives. There is no more time left for debate or discussion. We need action now or it's game over. And the number one priority to saving democracy and our planet is the elimination of the filibuster. Without doing that we get nowhere on anything.

Delta gives thanks

To all of its mindless followers.
